Hockey Books

A great way to support The Hockey Foundation and our mission to change lives via ice hockey is by sending children's hockey books for us to donate to schools in under-served and/or remote communities around the world.

16% of the world is illiterate, including 286,000,000 adults in India*. Sports is one of the best ways to teach children about social norms and constructs, as well as foster international understanding & cooperation.  Language and literacy are a necessary component in communicating these principles, and via ice hockey, we can achieve that goal together.

We've included a number of children's hockey books that are recommended & requested.

You can buy directly via the Amazon links and send to one of the ILSC locations listed at the bottom of this page.

Hockey Days is a heartwarming tale about a father & son, and how the game of hockey brings them together and teaches them more than just who wins the game or scores the most goals.

Tom’s Dad rediscovers a street hockey ball and a beloved orange knit hat from his childhood and tells Tom about his street hockey teammates including Crash, Critter and Pumpkinhead, his best game against the fearsome Irondale team and how the best part of any hockey day was having the chance to spend time with his dad. Tom comes to learn that by carrying on traditions, you help keep someone who may be far away, closer to your heart.

Hockey Days has received very positive reviews in The Hockey News and in USA Hockey Magazine and it was the only children’s book featured in the 2007 Sporting News magazine Gift Guide as a Best gift for children.

Told in a flashback, Hockey Player For Life is the story of a 13-year-old, Tom Leonard, his AA hockey team and hometown’s “can’t-miss kid.” When Tom doesn’t make it in the big league in Canada, he learns valuable lessons from his best friend, his teammates, his family and from simply playing the great game of hockey.  He comes to learn what it means to be a hockey player for life!
